Community Reads

The Neighborhood Library Association (NLA) is a group of five area libraries in a collaborative partnership. The goal is to bring members of their communities together to read and discuss the same book in an annual Community Read. These five libraries also encourage community members to come together for events and programs related to that year's selected book. The five libraries composing the NLA are: Lyon Township Public Library, Northville District Library, Novi Public Library, Salem-South Lyon District Library and Wixom Public Library.

Visit the Neighborhood Library Association's Community Reads website for more information.

2014 Community Reads

The 2014 Community Reads book selection is We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves by Karen Joy Fowler. It is worth the trouble to avoid spoilers, including the ones on the back cover, for Fowler’s newest novel. Let the author introduce the troubled Cooke family before she springs the jaw-dropping surprise at the heart of the story.

In this curious, wonderfully intelligent novel, Fowler brings to life a most unusual American middle-class family, ordinary in every way but one. This is a tale of loving but fallible people whose well-intentioned actions lead to heartbreaking consequences. The madcap plot and fresh diction add humor to a story about experimental psychology, human development, and animal rights.

Karen Joy Fowler is the New York Times bestselling author of The Jane Austen Book Club, and has written six novels and three short story collections.
