Summer Photo Contest Winners

Facebook Sarah Bubenheimer1Instagram Janet Oele VanderLugt 2Natalia Soss Email1REVISEDEMail Kaiya Lawing 2RESIZED  We had an amazing response to our Pure Northville Summer Photo Contest, with 101 entries! The photos were artistic and captured summertime in Northville, which made it difficult to select winners. Here are the results (panel of judges and Facebook votes combined).

First Place: Scenic View Up Main Street by Sarah Bubenheimer;  Second Place: Baseball Boys on Bleachers by Janet Oele VanderLugt;  Third Place: Waterwheel by Natalia Soss; Fourth Place: Girl Reading in Hammock by Kaiya Lawing.  Honorable Mentions:  Sock Monkey on Fire Truck by Alex Gruly and Clock at Night by Luc VanVlerah.  Although these four photos did not place, the judges felt they deserve special mention.  Friday Night Concert by Linda Schwelnus; Little Girl with Bride by Emilia Li; Dog Returning His Book at Library Book Drop by Tracy Thompson; and Girl Peeking Through Library Shelves by Indira Sankaran.  Thank you to ALL who participated!  Visit the Library in mid-September to see the photo display.

2014 Community Reads Title Announced

COMMREADSThe 2014 Community Reads book selection is We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves by New York Times bestselling author Karen Joy Fowler. In this curious, wonderfully intelligent novel, Fowler brings to life a most unusual American middle-class family, ordinary in every way but one. This is a tale of loving but fallible people whose well-intentioned actions lead to heartbreaking consequences. Book discussions and events are scheduled at five participating libraries: Northville, Novi, Salem-South Lyon, Wixom and Lyon Township beginning September 20 and culminating in the author visit on Tuesday, November 18. Register now for our program Healing Vets & Saving Pets on Thursday, October 30. Learn more.
