BOARD OF TRUSTEES CODE OF ETHICS

Trustees must observe ethical standards, while promoting quality library service.

Trustees who are elected/appointed to the Library Board are expected to perform all of the functions of library trustees.

Trustees must avoid situations in which personal interests might be served or financial benefits gained at the expense of library users, colleagues, or the institution. It is incumbent upon any trustee to disqualify himself or herself immediately whenever the appearance of conflict of interest exists.

Trustees must distinguish clearly in their actions and statements between their personal philosophies and attitudes and those of the institution, acknowledging the formal position of the Board even if they personally disagree.

A trustee must respect the confidential nature of library business while being aware of and in compliance with applicable laws governing freedom of information.

Trustees shall not become employed by the Northville District Library or receive any compensation for services rendered.

No immediate family member of a trustee shall become employed by the Northville District Library while that trustee holds office. Immediate family member is defined as a spouse, civil union partner, domestic partner, or the parent, child, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, grandparent, grandchild, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, stepparent, stepchild, stepbrother, stepsister, half-brother or half-sister, of the individual or of the individual’s spouse, civil union partner or domestic partner, by blood, marriage, or adoption.
