Friends of the Library Meeting Minutes for June 16, 2011

President's Report - Jennifer GustafsonThe Art House is looking for assistance on June 25, 26, & 27. Jennifer passed around a volunteer sheet.
Assistance is needed with the Summer Reading Program. Jennifer passed around a volunteer sheet.
Bookmark committee - Martha volunteered to chair the committee. Discussion centered on a possible bookmark contest for the Youth and Teen patrons. The library is looking to partner with the Friends.
Market stall at the Farmer's Market - Thursday June 30
The library is going to be participating from 8-3pm. The library is looking to partner with the Friends at the Farmer's Market. A volunteer sheet was passed around.
The Book and Author luncheon was a success. The Friends made $239.34. The Friends are looking for a representative to replace Peggy as she is stepping down from the position.
August 11 is the Volunteer Recognition night. The library will have desserts for all the volunteers.
The Friends are looking for a First Vice President replacement to Linda Schwelnus as Linda will be taking Jennifer's position in September.
Silent Auction/Wine Tasting - Jennifer is working on firming up the details and the location. Discussion was centered on location and date.

Library Director - Anne Mannisto
Circulation for May was down in 2011. This is attributed to the Novi library being closed last year and their patrons, which inflated the numbers coming to the Northville library. When compared with 2009 statistics, circulation is up 4%.
Summer Reading for adults started June 1. There are a number of people who have signed up and are participating in the program.
Summer Reading for youth and teens starts June 17. The library is gearing up and is ready to get the program started.
The Friends section on the website has been changed. The group photo has been added. Changes are continuing to be made to the website to improve the page.
Fun Friday Flicks in the park begins on June 24. The Friends have co-sponsored the program. There will be pre-show entertainment. The movie is "Legends of the Guardians."
Victorian Festival Parade will be held on September 16. The library is looking to have Friends members join the library in the parade.
Wish List - Looking to have some upgrading done to the lighting in the parking lot. This will add an additional $2,800 that is needed to the wish list.
Treasurer's Report- Denise Stacer
There is nothing unusual to report.
Denise bought some software that will assist her in her position.
Joe made a motion to move $2,800 from savings into the budget to cover the lighting wish list expenditures.
Discussion was held on the topic. The motion passed. All were in favor.
Corresponding Secretary - Lynn Favers
Nothing to report.
Membership - Ellison Franklin
Currently the Friends have 230 memberships. We received 13 new memberships during the month. Last year we had 285 memberships. Memberships continue to be received throughout the year. Ellison will be doing another mailing.
Gift Store - Martha Nork & Linda Schwelnus
There was $260 profit in May.
The store is looking to purchase a new cash register. Martha and Linda are researching their options.
Used Book Sale - Jim Morche & Paul SnyderUsed Books Sale - Will be held September 29 - October 2
Joe thanked Karen for the new signs for the Cellar.
Joe and Paul bought new shelving for the store from Borders stores that were going out of business.
Development Meeting Committee -
Discussion was held on the meeting.
Old Business - Ellison inquired about the Member shopping days in the fall.
Martha updated the Baker's list. She will distribute the list to Jennifer and Anne.
New Business - Erin found a group that will distribute books overseas to the troops. Joe indicated the best time to donate books will be after the fall book sale.Meeting adjourned 8:28 pm.
