Download audiobooks, eBooks and music directly to your home computer 24/7!

The Northville District Library has joined with a group of neighboring libraries to provide downloadable digital media services through OverDrive Digital Media. We call it the Download Destination.

What's available on Download Destination?

WMA Audiobooks: Can be listened to on your computer, burned to a CD or transferred to a portable device that is compatible with DRM. A list of compatible devices can be found here.

MP3 Audiobooks: Can be listened to on your computer, burned to CD or transferred to any MP3 device, including iPods!

eBooks: Electronic PDF editions of print books that can be read on your computer, PDA or other reading device. eBooks are viewed with Adobe Reader or Adobe Digital Editions software (not for Amazon Kindle).

Music: WMA files of music from a variety of genres can be listened to on your computer or transferred to a portable device that is compatible with DRM. A list of compatible devices may be found here.

How to use Download Destination

Browse the collection. Look for titles that appeal to your interests. Add the titles to your cart. Some items might be unavailable at check out...but you can place a hold to get them when they become available. You may have up to 10 holds at a time.

Checkout: Once you have made your selections, proceed to checkout. You may check out up to 5 items at a time. There is no account to set up. Items are checked out using your Northville District Library card number (you will need your PIN number).


Checkout periods:

Audiobooks (WMA or MP3): 14 days
eBooks: 21 days

Download: The items you check out are downloaded to your computer using the OverDrive Media Console. You will need to install this on your system. Specifications for PC and Mac are here. The larger audiobook files are broken into parts to make long downloads easier to manage. The Media Console is also used to burn files to a CD or transfer to a portable device.
